From 1891–1916, M Street High School gave rise to an extraordinary concentration of Black scholars, educators, artists, and civic leaders whose ideas reshaped American law, culture, education, and public life at a national scale.

Today, M Street Center is reactivating that legacy as a Black Cultural Space of Excellence—training youth as civic leaders, activating histories as public force, and restoring a National Historic Landmark as a civic platform that asserts Black cultural authority in Washington, DC and beyond.
